The Friends of the Sherborn Library were excited to bring back their Summer Concert Series to the Sherborn Library lawn on Wednesday, June 26th. Despite the forecasted thunderstorms later that evening, families and friends gathered onto the lawn, eager to hear and enjoy the first performance of the summer.
The Roy Scott Big Band (RSBB) kicked off this summer series which included a fully-instrumented 19-piece ensemble. According to their website, they play “repertory from over 90 years of great music – from the original classics of the Swing Era to the current hits of the Swing Revival and beyond. Our concerts and private events feature a wide range of favorites – swing, jazz, rock, pop, “cool” jazz, funk, bebop, blues, and Latin.”
Before starting their performance, a representative from the Friends of the Sherborn Library stated, “Welcome everybody! On behalf of the Friends of the Sherborn Library we want to extend a warm welcome to you, our audience, for coming out tonight. We can’t thank you enough for being here. I would like to point out that the Friends have a fun craft over on the right here set up at the tent for your little ones to enjoy. Please feel free to check it out. I know there is a little thunder but we are going to hold out as long as we can. We are trying to push the storm in the other direction and we are hoping it continues on that way. We will continue forward unless we announce otherwise. Thank you again for being here. We hope to see you at future library events and please enjoy the show!”
Upon completing their first song of the evening, one of the RSBB members stated, “Thank you all so much. We are so pleased to be making our debut at this beautiful spot in Sherborn tonight. We are delighted to be here. This band is based in Sharon, MA and we have people who have come from all over to gather tonight and make some music for you. We hope you enjoy the show. Next up, we will be performing a song from Brazil!”
As the crowd listened to this incredible performance by RSBB, they could be seen enjoying some food either that they brought or purchased from the food truck on site. It can be said with ease that all in attendance are looking forward to the upcoming Summer Concert Series ahead here at the Sherborn Library.
