Bellforge’s Summer Sounds concert series kicked off last week under the sun and thankfully shade of the trees with three special performances. Families were invited to bring chairs, picnic blankets, and dinner to have a night outside and enjoy the music.

First up was Adeline Hotel and Jackie West, two singer-songwriters who gave us a combo set for a project they are working on. The two gave a serene, American folk songs a life under the trees of Bellforge. They also had a special guest, their dog Susie was on stage with them. They started the night off bringing in the serene vibes of summer.
Between sets the crowd was given an update on the process of turning the old Medfield Hospital into a performing arts center. As of this year they were only a few million dollars short of their goal, and every donation helps! But the main building will hopefully be open for indoor performances next year.
The next performers brought a different vibe to the stage with a grunge-pop trio from Rhode Island, The Benji’s. With Adam Cargin on drums, Philip Geronimo on guitar and vocals, and Maryssa Morse on vocals and synth bass, the band got the crowd up and amped with their quick paced music and performance featuring exciting synths. The variety in genres performing was a changeup for the usual concerts but ensured there was something for everyone in attendance. Kids danced and ran around to the up-tempo music while people of all ages rocked their heads.

The final act of the night was contemporary folk singer-songwriter Brooke Annibale, who’s songs have been featured in shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, and Pretty Little Liars. Her music seemed to pull the night forward with the simplicity of her voice and guitar. Despite being the last act of the night, her music kept people in place until the end and excited some for her new album this fall.

The Summer Sounds concert always brings out amazing talent and introduce the crowd to some new music they wouldn’t have heard before. It is a great way to get outside and enjoy a free show, whether with friends, family, or by yourself to enjoy a night out.
