Garden Club holds luncheon/tea

The Westwood Garden Club held a successful luncheon/tea on April 27 at Temple Beth David synagogue in Westwood.

Activities at the luncheon included a display of handmade quilts by member Mary Masiello. Matching “tablescapes” for each quilt on display were designed by by members: current president Susan Dyer, Jeannie Gilbin, MaryJo Hood, Marcie Grokulsky, and Margaret Rustrian.

Mary shared the story behind a 9/11 quilt on display. The quilt was made shortly after the terror attacks in 2001 and was part of an auction on eBay intended to raise money for 9/11 charities. After making the the quilt, Mary realized she could not part with, so she decided to bid on it herself. After a brief biding war, she won - she got to keep the quilt and donate to a great charity at the same time.

Also at the luncheon, members participated in an entertaining fashion show wearing clothes from Glad Rags in Westwood.
The next program meeting will be at the COA on May 24 at 1 p.m.

On May 25 at 11:30 a.m., the Garden Club will hold its last luncheon of the year at the Four Points Restaurant in the Sheraton Hotel in Norwood. Club members who have yet to purchase tickets may call Joan Flynn. Tickets are $25 per person.
