Plenty of traffic at WCC Car Show

By Rama K. Ramaswamy

The Modifiers Car Club is all about “classic cars, people and fun.” The club meets monthly to plan events, share car knowledge, discuss on-going member car projects, preferred auto parts sources, repair secrets and classic car finds.
When the club got started, it was initially a group of high school pals who loved to tinker with cars and figure out how to make them go faster; now it’s filling the Wellesley Community Center’s (WCC) parking lot and grassy sidewalks with all kinds of hand-crafted cars, vintage fire-trucks and customized motorcycles.

Last weekend, the WCC sponsored The Modifiers Car Club, along with many individual car-aficionados drawn from the greater Wellesley community, in kicking off what promises to be the start of a “wonderful tradition” of showcasing automotive art and engineering, according to Executive Director Stephen Beach.

The WCC Car Show began at 9:30 a.m. and by 3 p.m., when the last customized set of wheels cleared out, the WCC was packed full of enthusiasts with cameras and cars. Bob Gobiel, the current President of The Modifiers Car Club, along with other founding members, Dick Barrick, Richard Knights and Arthur Taddeo, spent the day catching up with friends and outlining the unique features of each of the cars featured in the show, to attendees and fellow automotive enthusiasts. Pre-War classics, post-War hot rods, muscle cars, and the fan favorite Rat Rod got lots of attention.

In addition to all this, the Natick Fireplace Store organized a raffle that included The Big Green Egg (the ceramic charcoal barbecue cooker), donated by the company by the same name. As the event wrapped up, WCC’s Executive Director Beach thanked all parties involved in making the day, “a great success.”
