The Walpole High School varsity field hockey team took to Turco Field last Thursday looking to continue their unbeaten season against rival Braintree. Behind a four-point performance (three goals, one assist) by sophomore Jessica Tosone, the Porkers (13-0-1, 9-0-1) rolled to a 5-2 victory to remain unbeaten with three regular season games remaining.
Tosone drew first blood for Walpole with 27:34 to play in the first half by burying a shot down low on a penalty corner try. The game remained 1-0 until 12:23 to play in the half, when Tosone notched her second of the contest, this time finishing a feed from sophomore Caroline Whelan at the net-mouth to make it 2-0.
Just 1:28 later, Whelan secured her second point of the day by burying a feed from senior captain Sydney Scales on a rush from the left side of the cage to make it 3-0. The goal forced Braintree to take a timeout.
Braintree got one back to make it a 3-1 game at halftime, but Scales responded accordingly for the Porkers to begin the second half, rushing the ball up the field and floating home a shot up high to make it a 4-1 game with 28 minutes remaining. Tosone would complete the hat trick moments later to make it a 5-1 game. The Porkers would go on to prevail by a 5-2 final.
