The morning rain on Friday gave way to blue skies in the afternoon on August 18th, just in time for the outdoor craft and chat event at the Medfield Public Library (MPL). Quilted blankets adorned with threads, needles, and yarn set the scene as friends gathered together, creating a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy their latest creative endeavors.

Bri Ozanne, the host of the outdoor craft and chat event, welcomed participants to one of the many gatherings that the library organizes for Medfield residents and friends.

Attendees brought along their ongoing craft projects, contributing to the convivial ambiance. Ozanne thoughtfully provided an array of essential tools, including scissors, pens, embroidery thread, needles, and even adult coloring books with pencils, ensuring that everyone could engage in their preferred form of creativity. The event provided a serene way to spend a leisurely afternoon.

The meeting took place on the Medfield State Hospital grounds, where participants congregated under a cluster of trees on the grass, seeking shade. Ozanne and fellow attendees devoted their time to embroidery projects. Some worked on items destined as gifts for friends, while others adorned their jean jackets with captivating designs. The creative scope extended beyond embroidery, as some individuals explored crochet techniques, crafting intricate stitches that would eventually take shape as short-sleeve cardigans.

Ozanne expressed her affinity for hosting these gatherings, emphasizing the strong sense of community they foster in Medfield. Meeting new people through these events holds a special allure for her. The remarkable talents showcased within the group underscore the supportive and collaborative environment, where experienced crafters willingly share their expertise with newcomers eager to delve into novel artistic pursuits.

Ozanne shared, “We offer an array of enjoyable arts and crafts programs, including craft and chat sessions, and casual creativity for adults, which convene in this outdoor setting. Our library also hosts sewing classes, and in the upcoming month, we will feature a paper-cutting workshop. The social dimension of these programs is what I cherish the most. A core group consistently participates in our art programs, resulting in engaging conversations.”

The Medfield Library offers an array of activities catering to diverse age groups, encompassing art and crafts, culinary interests, and entertainment. The library serves as an excellent venue for strengthening ties within the Medfield community and fostering connections with like-minded individuals while embracing a spirit of enjoyment.
