A whirlwind of emotions floated through the air last Friday at the Sherborn Library. Locals and fellow librarians gathered together in the community room to say goodbye to the beloved Youth Services Librarian, Maureen Hayes. Everyone in attendance came to celebrate Hayes and enjoy her company for a final time.
Hayes had worked at the library for over six years, touching the lives of everyone who crosses her path. She began working at the Library part-time six years ago, then went onto complete graduate school and received her Master’s in Library Science.
During her time spent as the Youth Services Librarian, she brought forth a multitude of wonderful programs and activities for children of all ages and their families to enjoy. It was plain to see that Hayes was able to build quite the connection with local families through her kind heart and passion about the library.
Locals and her colleagues reminisced about her tenure at the library. “Maureen has been an essential part of our staff through difficult and joyous times,” Liz Anderson, library director shared. Hayes assisted staff and patrons as they navigated their time spent at the community center, survived the COVID-19 pandemic, and eventually reopened the library early this year.
Lots of hugs, warm wishes, and stories were shared as the community and the Sherborn Library bid their farewells to Hayes. Everyone in attendance had been touched by all of the work that the librarian had put into making the Sherborn Library what it is today.
Her kindness and passion for the library will be missed as she moves along to her next adventure. On behalf of Hometown Weekly, we wish Maureen Hayes the best of luck on her move. She will be deeply missed by the entire Sherborn community.
