The Sherborn Library Arts and Crafts Fair has been held annually since 1972. This year’s event was crowded with cars parked in most spots available in the immediate area. A large flag hoisted on a fire truck ladder marked the spot where all the fun was happening. Booths with artisans’ wares, local organizations offering information, children’s groups, flowers and plants for Mother’s Day, and food trucks were located on the front lawn of, behind, and on the side lawns of the library.
A day full of regional entertainment was scheduled for a tent on the lawn behind the library. The performers included Lou Lou’s Music Together from Natick, the Dover-Sherborn Regional High School’s Noteworthy a cappella group, Scott Martell Magic from Bellingham, the Dancing Arts Center from Holliston, the School of Rock from Natick, and Perez Martial Arts from Medfield.
The School of Rock performed at 1 pm. The school’s interchanging performers delighted the audience with powerful vocals and rocking keyboards and guitars, along with solid drumming. The groups played energetic contemporary songs such as “Crazy” by Aerosmith “Sk8ter Boi” by Avril Lavigne, among many other rock, pop, and heavy metal songs. Several School of Rock students played multiple instruments. The ensembles played tightly, with coordination and a performance level at the top of the range of local school performers’ abilities.
The Sherborn Lions, Fire Department, Recycling Center, Sherborn Forest and Trails group, and the Pollination Pathway group offered information on their organizations and books, maps, and other materials to inform people about their activities.
Over 40 booths at the fair were filled with art and products of all kinds, including Dawn’s Treasure Trove of Worry Pets and Sensory Items, warm and comforting throws by Knotty Blankets, art by Ironwings Studio, sculptures by Whitmore Boogaerts, gorgeous handmade furniture by Kevin Delaney’s Pleasant View Woodworks, bright and intricately-stitched quilting by Heather Gauthier and Laure Hall’s H and H Creations and Liz Pierce’s Pampered Pillows, and eye-catching ceramics by Cali Almy Ceramics, among many other options.
Visitors to the fair shopped at the booths, chatted with friends, walked pets, listened to performers, and enjoyed the pleasant cool day with the promise of spring in the air.
