The Westwood Public Library’s (WPL) Bookmobile celebrated its first birthday in style with a special Touch-a-Truck event on the Library Green. Despite a steady rain, families turned out for an afternoon of exploration and celebration.
The event, which ran from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM after ending early due to weather, featured the beloved Bookmobile alongside a lineup of its “truck friends.” Children and parents enjoyed climbing aboard the Westwood Fire Department’s fire truck, exploring police vehicles, and seeing a Tresca Truck and a Town Explorer vehicle. An ice cream truck was also on site, offering a sweet treat to attendees.
The library’s own mascot, Funny Bird, joined the festivities and was spotted enjoying a cupcake from Bibi’s Cafe and Bakery. Young visitors were encouraged to board the Bookmobile to browse and check out books, continuing the mobile service’s mission of bringing stories to the community.
The event was made possible through funding by the Westwood Young Women’s Club. Although the rain cut the party short, the library expressed its gratitude to all the families and town departments that came out to celebrate.
“Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate the Bookmobile’s 1st Birthday despite the rain!” the library shared. “Here’s to many more!”
The Bookmobile has spent its first year making stops throughout Westwood, bringing library resources directly to residents' neighborhoods. Wednesday’s party was a fitting celebration of its first successful year on the road.
