Sometimes, especially during the summer months, it can be hard to venture out to the public library. However, the Westwood Public Library (WPL) has a creative solution to this issue with the Bookmobile.
So, what is the Bookmobile? According to the Westwood Public Library, the Bookmobile is an upcycled van where visitors can “hop aboard to browse and check out books, get a library card, access library wifi, and get connected with other library services.”
The collection aboard the Bookmobile is librarian-curated to include new and popular publications as well as old favorites amongst all ages. The WPL website has a Bookmobile catalog so patrons can browse books and spot the location where the Bookmobile will be stopping at; though, it should be noted that Bookmobile books are not available to request ahead of time- if someone is looking for a specific book, they should request it from the library.
The Bookmobile loans are available for three weeks and can be returned to the Westwood Public Library (either the Main Branch of the Islington Branch), though one three-week renewal is available.
Thus far, the Bookmobile visited the WYWC Touch a Truck on Saturday, June 7, as well as at Westwood Pride on the COA Lawn on Sunday, June 8. Upcoming events include the Hale Summer Solstice event on Tuesday, June 17, a visit to Bubbling Brook on Friday, June 20 and the WPL will be hosting the Bookmobile’s First Birthday Party at the Library on August 20.
The complete summer route is still in progress- the library is accepting suggestions for where the Bookmobile should travel to next! To submit your suggestions, please visit: westwoodlibrary.org/bookmobile
