Friends of St. Patrick preparing luncheon

President Donnell W. Murphy and the Friends of St. Patrick have scheduled their 32nd annual luncheon for March 16th.

The day’s events will kick off with a parade in downtown Walpole at 11:00 a.m., which will be followed by the luncheon at Ambrosia Wedding and Events, located at 2 Washington Street (Route 1) in Foxboro, at noon.

Trolleys will be running between downtown Walpole and Ambrosia, with stops at Clyde’s Grill & Bar, Napper Tandy’s, The Raven’s Nest, and Finnegan’s Wake (new location - 653 Main Street, Walpole). The trolleys will be running extended hours this year until 6:30 p.m., and all are encouraged to use them.

Peter A. Betro, Jr. is the 2018 Person of the Year, and will be honored at the day’s events. Peter has chosen the Walpole Council on Aging and Walpole Smiling Eyes as the 2018 recipient charities.

The Friends of St. Patrick was founded in 1987 in Walpole by a small band of local citizens who realized the value of capturing the spirit of good will and cheer that abounds each year on the feast of Ireland’s most famous saint.

It was agreed that the most appropriate manner of celebrating this event would be an annual luncheon in mid March, at which time all people who shared that spirit would be welcome to join together in food, drink, laughter and song. In the spirit of its patron, each year the organization acknowledges the outstanding contributions of individuals and has donated over $445,000 to charities, including Wrentham State School, Friends of the Walpole Public Library, Project Face, Walpole Council on Aging, WEEI 590 Fund, Walpole Food Pantry, Jimmy Fund, Walpole Scholarship Fund, American Cancer Society, The Walpole V.N.A., Friends of St. Nick, Walpole Lions, Boston Food Bank, Miracles for Moody, Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice and Longview Farm.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.friendsofsaintpatrick.org or at the office of J.D. Murphy Real Estate, 7 West Street, Walpole. Tickets are $50 each; tables of ten may be reserved for $500. For more information, call (508-668-1200).
