On May 15, hundreds of supporters participated in First Annual Hoops Tournament and raised over $2,500 to honor a beloved Coach and Trainer, Tim Brewster.

Wellesley High School students and Boys Basketball Captains Jake Mohan and Tim Rey organized a Basketball Tournament Fundraiser to honor the late Tim Brewster, former owner and founder of Train Boston fitness center in Wellesley.

Hundreds of players and spectators filled the outdoor basketball courts near Wellesley High School where the tournament took place on Sunday.

With 20 teams and over 100 players in all, there was an overwhelming community response of participation and generous donations to the Tim Brewster Athletic Scholarship fund, which was established in his memory to continue his love for life and desire to help others.

Tournament organizers Jake Mohan and Tim Rey, who worked closely with Dawn Brewster and members of the Brewster family, also had the support of Terry Sherman and the entire Train Boston staff.

When their mentor Tim Brewster passed away, Mohan and Rey decided they had to do something to honor his memory.

“Tim Brewster cared for and helped so many of the sports teams and athletes in Wellesley,” Mohan and Rey said. “The idea of a pick up basketball tournament took off right away with 20 teams signing up in a matter of days as everyone wanted to show their support. It was an amazing turnout and and unbelievable tribute to Tim Brewster.”

The competition was fierce at times with current and alumni WHS boys and girls basketball all-stars, Train Boston staff and clients, but also fun and light-hearted and included athletes across numerous sports, skill levels, and ages.

Reese Brewster, Tim’s four-year old daughter played for the Train Boston Team. In the end, the Wellesley Growlers took home first place.

Through this effort, and the outpouring of support from the Wellesley Community, the event raised over $2,500 for the scholarship fund, which has now grown to over $40,000.
