Following a successful season that included a 1-0 playoff win over arch rival Wellesley, the Needham High School field hockey team had several of its members recently recognized for their accomplishments on the field throughout the 2017 season.

Callie Hem, Meg McQuillen, Eileen Manning, and Talia Barrett were all named Bay State Conference All Stars. Hem was also named Bay State Conference MVP and Boston Herald All-Scholastic. Barrett was named Herget Division MVP along with being named BSC All Star.

Hem was awarded the honors of Team MVP, while Barrett earned the team’s Sportsmanship Award. Sara Kenney won Most Improved Player and Stella Pace won Unsung Hero.

The Needham High School field hockey team exceeded expectations this season, and maybe most importantly, ended archrival Wellesley’s season with a thrilling 1-0 win in the South Sectionals.

Team captains for next season were also selected earlier this week, and leading the Rockets into battle in 2018 will be Hem, Barrett, Chloe Newman, and Emily Shaughnessy.

Congratulations to Hem, Barrett, and all of Needham High field hockey on a great season and for all of these prestigious awards.
