Local children and families were in for a treat on Saturday, October 22, as Kurt Jackson and the Medfield Library hosted a Halloween party, complete with “not-so-spooky stories”, games and costumes.

The gazebo provided a perfect spot to gather around and enjoy the day’s warm weather as kids sat on yoga mats and picnic blankets, waiting patiently and attentively for Jackson’s introduction.

Kurt Jackson’s not-so-spooky Halloween stories had kids in attendance entirely enveloped in the season. Children dressed in costumes ranging from dragons and witches to firefighters, adding to the vibe.

Jackson, who recently made an appearance at Bellforge’s CultureFest, has a knack for storytelling that comes naturally; it is a gift that is clearly recognized in the Medfield community. He is especially adept at bending his stories around important morals and lessons for the kids.

Happy to share stories with little ones, Jackson explained: “They’re in the moment. Life goes by a lot slower living in the moment. That’s the great thing about kids.”

The audience itself was very much in the moment as it took in tales from Jackson, who was especially gracious towards the young listeners. “In this world of electronics, it’s important for them to be able to sit down and listen,” he reflected.

Library staff made the day extra-special by offering games and activities along with the seasonal storytime. The lawn was decorated with Halloween-themed games, such as a witch’s hat ring toss and spooky golf, and children could even win prizes for their efforts.

While the kids were sad to leave the fun the end of the day, they had amazing new stories to share — and had worked off some of their seasonal energy, for good measure.

For those in attendance, Kurt Jackson and the Medfield Library had provided a highlight of the Halloween season.
