Knitting is one of the most popular hobbies and is on the rise. The hardest part for most beginners is starting and learning the craft, which is why the Medfield Public Library (MPL) Knitting Clinic is a wonderful place to start.
The clinic meets once a month and offers all the supplies anyone might need to get started. Cindy instructs the clinic and has a passion for teaching and knitting. She has all the patience in the world for beginners and will walk anyone through the process. The library has knitting needles patrons can check out for use during the clinic and beyond and there is always extra yarn for knitters to use.
While many come here to learn the craft others use it as a time to chat with friends and work on their current projects. The conversations vary throughout the few hours but the first question everyone asks is what everyone else is working on. Regular attendees find joy in seeing how far their friends have come in a project over the past month and offer suggestions of what to start next. Everyone who attends is supportive and willing to lend a hand to anyone struggling with a project or looking to pick up the hobby.
The knitting community within Medfield is always growing and inviting anyone who wants to join. Everyone praises the way the craft is portable and easy to carry around to work on when they find free time. There are many other events throughout the calendar that support adult crafts, where additional knitting support can be found. It’s never too late to pick up a new hobby and knitting is one of the most accessible for many people.
The clinic meets on the third Monday of every month from 3:30-5:30, and it's also available over Zoom. The Zoom option allows for more ease in making the clinic, but in person, it can be more helpful to pick up skills. More information and ways to access the Zoom link can be found on the Medfield Library website, or at the next knitting clinic on September 16.
