The Sherborn Library renovation and expansion project is well under way, with plans and designs that reflect community input gathered through both formal and informal surveys, as well as from direct project feedback.

Most recently, several members of the Library Building Committee (LBC) created an updated survey, which they used to solicit input from library patrons and town residents.

This latest effort resulted in 101 responses from the community, providing the LBC, Library Trustees and the professional design team with several new ideas and underscoring many original assumptions.

“We’ve been gathering input all along,” said Mary Moore, Chair of the Library Trustees, “these most recent survey results confirm many of the ideas we generated early on in the process, particularly relating to the design and layout of the exciting new Children’s Room.”

“These latest survey results are a good reminder that books remain a meaningful draw for our patrons,” said LBC member Alexis Madison. “Responses reflect the value our community places on comfortable reading spaces in our Library and on special programming.”

“With respect to technology, we want it to enhance patrons’ experiences and make the Library more user-friendly, while leaving plenty of room for creativity, flexibility, collaboration and imagination,” added Adam Page, another LBC member who spearheaded the recent survey.

Work on the Library renovation and expansion project is now moving at a rapid pace in the Design Development Phase.

The LBC and subgroups (interior design, technology, and more), along with Library Trustees and Library staff are working closely with the owner’s project manager, Design Technique, Inc., led by John Sayre-Scibona, and the project designers, Beacon Architectural Associates and Richard Smith, to finish design details.

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is also coordinating closely on the project to ensure the new library design meets requirements outlined in the original library grant application.
