Local students craft Halloween jewelry

With Halloween right around the corner, the Sherborn Library decided to get tweens and teens in the spirit by hosting a Halloween Resin Jewelry event. Located in the Friends’ Teen Room on the second floor of the library, those in grades five and up were welcome to design their very own resin creations.

This hands-on event was sponsored by the Friends of the Sherborn Library and led by Teen Librarian Quincy Knapp. She went on to express just how thankful she was to the Friends for their extremely generous support for all of these kinds of events. “Their support means the world to us,” Knapp detailed, “and so many people get to enjoy the events that we do because of them.”

As attendees filed into the room, Knapp went over the two rules that she had before everyone got started. She explained that everyone should wear gloves throughout the process of making their resin creations and she will do the mixing of the resin itself.

Everyone was able to pick from a variety of molds that Knapp had laid out, including cats, bats, pumpkins, stars, witches, spiderwebs, skulls and other jewelry type shapes. Upon picking the one they liked, attendees brought it over to Knapp so she could start mixing their resin together.

Knapp had multiple colors of dye that the teens could choose from to add to their resin. She even suggested mixing some of the colors together and adding some colorful glitter if they wanted. After the UV resin was all mixed, attendees took it back to their seats and carefully poured it into their molds. Knapp would then use a heat gun to get rid of any bubbles and place the molds under the UV light “Let’s Resin” machine for about five minutes.

Just like that, the resin creations were complete. Everyone was able to make multiple pieces out of different molds throughout the course of the event. Perhaps the most popular mold used was the stars as Knapp had made an example of one for everyone to see. This led to attendees wanting to try it out for themselves.

For those who missed this event, Knapp stated that one of the “Let’s Resin” machines will be available to check out at the library. For more information about this and/or upcoming events happening at the Sherborn Library, please visit their website at www.sherbornlibrary.org.
