The Sherborn Library loves to uplift and support local artists by showcasing their work throughout the community room. The library recently unveiled the most recent collection “Whimsical Art” by dd Design.
Opening night welcomed guests to get a sneak peek at the otherworldly art on display. Artist Devin DiChiara has been described as “The Whimsical Artist” by one of her college professors and that light-hearted attitude is palpable within her art. Bright colors and inventive painting techniques filled the room and captivated the audience. Each painting displayed something unique to each viewer and the room filled with the buzz of conversation discussing what they saw.
DiChiara spoke about her painting “Fenced In” and how the effect was created by attempting to save a canvas from a painting she wanted to try again. The long vertical strokes were caused by scraping paint off the canvas which created a new series for DiChiara. These pieces with the fence effect have become one of her personal favorites as well as a fan favorite.
Her art contains bright colors and she draws inspiration from fantasy and folklore to create her pieces. Guests walked the community room to get a closer look at the details and layers of the paintings as the night went on. Everyone saw something else in the swirls and drops of paint that decorated the canvases. DiChiara uses layers of paint and mixes sand and other mediums into her paints to make the paintings come to life and almost come off the canvas.
Halfway through the night, DiChiara spoke to the audience about her artistic experience and education. She began to experiment with art and different techniques when she started her undergraduate studies at Colby-Sawyer College. Through classes in different mediums of art, she found her passion for painting and her whimsical style.
DiChiara’s art will be on display in the community room of the Sherborn Library for all to see. These paintings are a can’t-miss journey through colors and explorative techniques in art. DiChiara hopes her art encourages viewers to go forth and create their own art and spread color and joy.
