Returning for its fifth year, the Sherborn Public Library (SPL) hosted a Holiday Gift Wrap-a-thon on Tuesday, December 19th and Wednesday, December 20th. All were welcome to bring their gifts to wrap as well as enjoy some other fun activities.
On both days, from 12 pm to 7:30 pm, the Community Room was open for anyone who wanted to get some holiday wrapping done. Attendees could choose from wrapping paper already made or they could go on to create their very own. To do this, they could use an array of Christmas stamps, festive holiday paper, ribbons, bows, fabric and more.
If the present could not be wrapped, plain gift bags were also provided and could be personalized as well. If anyone did not bring any presents to wrap, they were still welcome to decorate the paper, bags, and gift tags to take home with them.
Also included during this Wrap-a-thon was a personalized ornament making station. Attendees were able to take two halves of a clear ornament ball and fill it with either white plastic or cotton stuffing. Once the two halves were combined, they would then use markers to draw a face on the ornament, whether that be a snowman face or really anything they wanted. Finally, they would each cut some red yarn and tie it to the ornament so they could bring it home and hang it on their tree!
Either before or after partaking in the holiday gift wrapping / ornament making, all were invited to enjoy some delicious hot chocolate that was provided. There was regular milk chocolate as well as dairy free, and there were also some fun additions they could add into their drink: Candy canes, M&M’s, marshmallows, and more.
When talking with Sherborn Librarian, Christine, she had mentioned just how much they love doing this event each year. “We do this every year,” she stated, “and people will bring their gifts to either come make the wrapping paper or use the ones we provide for them. By using the stamps and ribbons, things like that, it becomes more of a craft and an extra personal touch to the presents. We try to make it as festive as possible with hot cocoa and Christmas music playing throughout the day. We are doing it for two days, so everyone has an opportunity to come out if they would like. It is meant to make wrapping more fun and easy for people so they don’t have to do all that at home if they prefer not to. We love sharing this event with the community and hope they enjoy it!”
