The Friends of the Sherborn Library today announced receipt of a $20,000 grant awarded by the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation. The support will allow the Friends of the Sherborn Library (FOTSL) to effect a full-scale redesign of the Sherborn Library website to increase communication and promotion by FOTSL of services and programming they provide for the town of Sherborn and surrounding communities. The funds received will support upgraded website performance, add new functionality, simplify site maintenance and improve editorial workflow with a goal of improved engagement for patrons, residents, staff and all library visitors. “We are honored and so excited to have received this generous grant from Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation,” said Elizabeth Johnston, Sherborn Library Director. “These funds will enable us to provide the wide Sherborn Library community with an enhanced ‘online’ experience reflecting the new ‘bricks & mortar’ experience that will come with our $8.6 million renovation and expansion project currently underway.”
The Friends of the Sherborn Library are responsible for many of the large community events that highlight Sherborn’s year. “An updated website will allow us to communicate more effectively and with greater reach to library patrons in town and in surrounding communities, said FOTSL president Abby Fiske. “We use the website to share information about our many children’s programming events, about the museum pass program, adult social events, our summer concert program, town newcomer activities, book sales and book dealer days, as well as our biggest event, the annual arts & crafts fair!”
The entire amount of the grant awarded by Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation will be used by the Friends of the Sherborn Library to fund the library website redesign, from the discovery and training phases to the ‘go live’ with the new site. “This meaningful website redesign and enhancement will be especially fitting for our newly renovated library space,” said FOTSL board member Leah Yerre. “Our public library is truly the heart of the community, with services and programming available for all to enjoy.”
“Middlesex Savings Bank has always cared deeply about the communities we serve, said Dana Neshe, president of the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation. “Through the Foundation grants, we are able to provide support to the people and organizations who work the hardest to both solve problems and create opportunities for our neighbors. We are pleased to support the Friends of the Sherborn Library this year with the awarded grant.”
