Dover Foundation to celebrate anniversary

In 2017 the Dover Foundation, one of Dover's oldest continuing volunteer organizations, will turn 70.

The Dover Foundation was founded in 1947 to promote neighborliness, cooperation and good feeling among the citizens of Dover by means of a community effort for the support of a student aid fund to further the education of the youth of Dover.

For the last 70 years, annual plays and musicals have brought together hundreds of people in supporting these goals.

The Dover Foundation is celebrating its 70th year milestone in two very special ways. The first way is through the 2017 Spring musical, “Guys & Dolls,” which will be performed on May 4-7.

“Guys & Dolls” was the very first Broadway musical staged by The Dover Foundation in 1963 and again in 1983 and 2003. “Guys & Dolls” has become a perennial favorite. This year's production will be directed by Sheridan Miller with a cast of over 50 including many returning veterans as well as new cast members. Visit www.thedoverfoundation.com for a full cast list.

Secondly, The Dover Foundation is commemorating 70 years with the publication of a book of memories. This book is due to be released in the fall of 2017 and will chronicle all of the plays, musicals and cabarets since 1947, including hundreds of photos from past shows. Using old programs, newspaper articles and other archived materials, the story of 7 decades and those who have contributed to so many wonderful shows will be told.

Have you or members of your family ever been involved in The Dover Foundation? Do you have any photos of yourself or family members in past plays, musicals or cabarets? Do you know of others who no longer live in Dover that would have photos or old programs they would like to share? Please pass the word.

The Dover Foundation would love to hear from you and invites you to send copies of anything you have to info@thedoverfoundation.org or call Sheridan Miller (508-785-2890).

Pre-orders of the book will be available this spring at the performances of “Guys and Dolls” and on the Foundation’s website: www.thedoverfoundation.com.

As it has always done, The Dover Foundation is raising money for its scholarship fund and to support the local community in Dover. To donate to the Foundation’s annual appeal, send checks to The Dover Foundation, PO Box 69, Dover.
