Athletic Hall of Fame honoring Lorenzen

The DSHS Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its third annual dinner and induction ceremony on March 7 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Richard J. Wakely Gymnasium. Honored this year will be longtime teacher, coach and Athletic Director Jim “JL” Lorenzen. Lorenzen was a Phys. Ed. teacher for 29 years at Dover-Sherborn, as well as the athletic director (1974-1994, 1998-2001) and a baseball coach. He truly is the architect of the DSHS athletic program. During his tenure, athletic offerings were greatly expanded and improved, as evidenced by the over 100 league championships won by DSHS teams.

Lorenzen has been named Athletic Director of the Year and has served as president of the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Directors Association, president of the MIAA Tournament Management Committee, chairman of the MIAA Softball Committee and the executive secretary-treasurer of the Tri-Valley League.

Headmaster Richard J. Wakely described Lorenzen on his retirement as having “built and directed a program that is concerned with student safety, student comfort and student growth. His supportive personality and concern for individuals are evident in our most competitive athletic program.”
