The Needham Rockets wrestling team closed out its regular season on a high note Wednesday night, Feb. 4, defeating the Wellesley Raiders 45–26 in their final dual meet of the 2025–26 season. The win carried added significance for the Rockets, as it avenged a narrow six-point loss to Wellesley last season and came on Senior Night, when 10 Needham wrestlers were honored for their contributions to the program.

After receiving byes at 113 and 126 pounds, Needham gained early momentum behind its senior leadership. Team captains Nathan Taub (132), Max Sherer (144), and Daniel Burdin (215) each earned victories in their respective weight classes. Seniors Umar Datsaev (150), Eli McCue (175) and Colin Mancino, a first-year wrestler competing at heavyweight, also recorded wins to help secure the decisive team victory. Several other matches featured hard-fought efforts despite ending in losses, as Rockets wrestlers battled strong competition throughout the lineup.

The junior varsity squad also turned in strong performances, earning impressive wins from Robert Bobocea, Cam Hasting, and Eric Knuth.

With the regular season complete, Needham now turns its focus to postseason competition. The Rockets will compete in the Division 1 Central/Metro Sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Malden High School, where wrestlers will look to earn spots at the Division 1 State Tournament in their respective weight classes.
