The Charles River School hosted its annual Touch a Truck event, inviting the community to come and check out local machines. Touch a Truck events encourage all ages to explore the inner workings of different community vehicles and meet the people who operate them every day.
The Charles River School had seven trucks available for kids to climb and play in. They had a few fire trucks, construction vehicles, tow trucks, landscaping and the fan favorite, a moving truck with boxes to play with inside. Children gleefully laughed as they pushed boxes and moving blankets around the empty bed of the truck. Other children enjoyed dragging chains and hooks around on the back of tow trucks pretending to be tow mechanics. Fire Trucks were another big hit with kids who learned to press buttons to make the lights flash and the alarms ring out.
Parents watched and took photos of their children as they pretended to assume the roles of the people they usually see in these machines. Each vehicle had a representative from that occupation answering questions and helping kids understand the importance of their jobs. Tow operators talked about how they help people with car problems and the moving crew explained how they help people get everything they own to their new homes.
Beyond the trucks, other activities were offered to keep kids entertained. A bubble machine was pumping bubbles kids chased after trying to pop, and glitter tattoos were being offered. The school playground was also open to everyone, where many kids made new friends playing games and swinging together. Chalk was available for people to decorate the sidewalk and color to their heart's content. Parents enjoyed bringing their kids to different sections to experience all that was offered.
The Charles River annual Touch a Truck was another huge success this year. Children loved getting to explore vehicles they don’t get to see every day and parents enjoyed watching their children learn. With seven vehicles and other activities, there was no shortage of fun for the whole family. Each year this event grows so it’s always worth checking out, especially for those with young children.
