The Medfield Library opens its doors to everyone, offering programs that lead to engaging adult nights. Recently, the library hosted its adult game night, resulting in laughter and new friendships. No experience is necessary for any of the game events, as librarians and patrons help each other understand the rules.
This month's game was Balderdash, which revolves around silly words and guessing definitions among a group of fake ones. Points are earned by guessing the correct answer, having a player’s answer guessed, and keeping the real answer a secret. The game tests players' quick thinking and decision to play for laughs.
This month's game night was a small gathering, adding more chaos among players. Many attendees knew each other and could guess each other's answers, adding another layer of complexity. There are no prizes, only bragging rights and a love for the English language.
The best part about Balderdash is that all the words, movie titles, acronyms, and laws are real. After every round, the room erupted in laughter as players figured out how to use these words in everyday life. Friendly debates ensued over the definitions everyone came up with, and which were better than the real answer. Everyone was helpful to those struggling with the rules and ensured a good time for all.
Each month, the library invites its adult patrons to gather and play a board game. Additionally, the library offers book clubs, craft clinics, connection groups, and more, ensuring something for everyone. Programs are also available for children and teens.
The next adult game night will be on August 15 at 6 p.m., featuring Trivial Pursuit. No registration is required, but more information can be found on the library's website.
