Despite the construction happening on Sanger Street next to the Sherborn Library, little ones and their guardians filed into the Nora’s Treehouse Room in the Children’s Wing to enjoy a crafternoon. Happening on July 3rd, this week’s crafts were fourth of July themed and proved to be a hit for all in attendance!

Children’s Librarian Jen Power was seen running this event, helping out the little ones create their masterpieces. Dover-Sherborn 6th Grade Middle School student Siena was a volunteer during this crafternoon, making examples of each craft for attendees to see. These examples proved to be extremely helpful when it came time for each child to create their own.

Within the room, there were four tables set up, each with their own crafts. At the first table, fourth of July themed coloring pages were set up with some crayons. These pages included an ISpy game and color-by-code activity.

At the second table, pom-poms, beads, stickers, glue, popsicle sticks, cardboard and more were set up for little ones to create their very own flag. Each flag created had its own unique flare, and there were smiles all around while creating them.

At the third table, two different crafts were set up for all to enjoy. Attendees could either make a card using stamps, star cutouts, and glitter paint. They also could partake in some fourth of July friendship bracelet making that included a wide variety of colorful beads to choose from.

The fourth and final table additionally had two crafts set up: sparkler making and creating your own decorative streamer. For the sparkler making, little ones would use a wooden dowel and wrap some ribbon around the length of it. They would then attach red, white, blue and silver pipe cleaners at the top to create the sparkler effect. For the decorative streamers, crafters would cut a paper plate in half and glue on some red, white, or blue paper streamers to the cut end of the plate. They could then decorate the top of the plate using paint pens, stickers, ribbon and more.

Throughout the hour, all who attended were able to make all four crafts if they chose to do so. It was easy to see just how much everyone thoroughly enjoyed this crafternoon event and many look forward to the next one ahead!
