The Medfield High School boys varsity hockey team hosted Bishop Feehan at Pirelli Arena in Franklin on Monday for a little holiday non-conference matinee.
The Warriors (6-3-2, 3-3-2) entered off the heels of a 5-2 victory against Bellingham on January 18 and were looking to put together consecutive wins for the first time since the new year.
Following a scoreless first period, junior forward Phil Parker drew first blood for Medfield with 8:45 to play in the second, hammering home the rebound of an initial shot by Mike Vachon on a three-on-two. Just 2:15 later, however, Feehan responded with a goal following a turnover in the Medfield end, tying the game back up at one. With 2:42 to play in the period and Medfield on the power play, senior captain and forward Mike Tyer gave the Warriors back the lead by tipping home a shot from the point by junior James Wilder. Medfield took its one goal lead into the second intermission.
At 5:06 of the third period, Wilder earned his second point of the contest in dazzling fashion. After carrying the puck into the offensive zone, Wilder made a beautiful toe-drag move around a Feehan defender before cutting to the net and firing home a wrist shot blocker side to double Medfield’s lead to a pair at 3-1. With 4:05 to play and Medfield pressuring, junior forward Slater Franks found a loose puck at the net mouth and hammered home the dagger to put the Warriors ahead, 4-1. The clock hit zeros and Medfield came away with the three-goal victory.
Medfield will look to continue winning trend against Hopkinton on January 25, as the Warriors will look to avenge a 3-2 opening night defeat to the Hillers back on December 12.
