Sixteen-year-old Medfield resident Harrison Sprofera is one of ten young players chosen to represent the United States in the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals, which take place on from May 10–13 in Munich at the state-of-the-art Allianz Arena.
Sprofera, who plays as a center back, is a member of the Global Premier Soccer Massachusetts team and was chosen from 35 players, shortlisted from 800 players across the country, who took part in a tournament in South Carolina in February.
“I believe the opportunity to participate in training sessions with FC Bayern coaching staff will really help my game, and take it to the next level. I am excited for the opportunities ahead,” commented Harrison Sprofera.
As well as competing in the tournament, Sprofera will also attend the German champions' last home game of the Bundesliga season on May 12 against VfB Stuttgart, with the potential to meet world class players from FC Bayern’s first team.
Harrison’s father, Sal Sprofera, commented: “We are very excited for Harri. The Allianz Arena is such an amazing stadium to watch a soccer game, and Munich is just so friendly and welcoming.”
“Harrison is comfortable at left back and center back. He is an excellent user of the ball and his main strength is his ability to build attacks from the back with his passing ability,” said GPS Technical Director Mark Spalding.
The FC Bayern Youth Cup is now in its seventh year with nine countries participating, including Germany, Singapore, Colombia, Poland, Nigeria, India, China, Thailand and the U.S.
The opportunity to represent the United States in the FC Bayern Youth Cup is exclusive to Global Premier Soccer players as part of their grassroots player development program with FC Bayern. The partnership, which began in 2014, aims to grow the level of the game in North America, bringing the FC Bayern coaching philosophy and curriculum to over 95,000 children and 6,000 coaches into 101 soccer clubs throughout 25 states.
