It was a cool fall day with blue skies for the 16th annual Camy 5K Run & David 5K Walk at the Walpole Italian-American Club on Saturday, November 12. Mark D’Amico won the men’s division for the first time (19:05) and course record-holder Mimi Fallon won her record-setting fourth women’s division title (20:05) in the race that was dedicated to Frank Clerici Sr., the race director’s father who recently passed away.
“My mother, Carol Hunt-Clerici, and brother and sister-in-law Frank Clerici Jr. and Regina Clerici and I thought it was a fitting tribute to my father,” said race director Paul Clerici. “He either ran or walked it every year. This event meant a lot to him, so we also had a longtime friend of his and the family, Rich Seale, as the official starter of the walk, and family friend Gigi Turgeon the starter of the race in his honor.”
Behind D’Amico was Marco Capparella in second and Robert Peattie third for the men; and behind Fallon was Kate Lovell in second and Hilary McCarthy third for the women. In addition to age-group winners Reid Rhines, Christopher O’Connell, Michael Maloof, Jack Hart, Eric Benevides, Gary Mitchell, John Broderick, David Pember, Eliza Lee, Marina DeCelle, Brittany Broderick, Shiloh Comes, Karen Conroy, Linda Garr, Virginia Tolland, and Virginia Fettig, non-duplicate special-award winners were Steve Rose (Bill Hunt Award - first Walpole male), Stacey Jones (Alice Grace Hunt Award - first Walpole female), David Frizzell (Clydesdale), Karen Conroy (Filly), Paul Clerici (Camy Award - first Italian-American Club member from any town), Virginia Tolland (Coach Squires Award), Anne Marie McDonald (David Award), Rich Seale (Priesing Award), Patrick Damish (David 5K Walk - first male), and Jean Hauch (David 5K Walk - first female).
