Great Bear Run planned for May 19

On Sunday, May 19, the Needham Youth Track Club is sponsoring the 29th running of the Great Bear Run, a road race for all ages. There is a 5K run (10:30 a.m.), 1 Mile Run and Prostate Walk (12:15 p.m.), events for children including 400 meter (age 7-14) – 2:15 p.m., 200 meter (age 6) - 2 p.m., 100 meter (age 5) – 1:30 p.m., 26.2 meters Bearathon (age 0-3) - 1 p.m. The races start and end at Pollard School, located on 200 Harris Avenue.

The 5K is being run in memory of local teens Talia Newfield and Adrienne Garrido. All children receive teddy bears. The top three in each age group win a trophy, and all others a medal. Children's books will be collected in memory of Char Sidell, beloved Broadmeadow librarian.

The Great Bear himself will attend the event, which includes live entertainment, face painting, balloon sculptures, bands, and a magic show, as well as fresh fruit and pizza.
