Westwood voters chose Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton as presidential nominees during the Massachusetts presidential primary on March 1.
A total of 5,779 of Westwood’s 10,855 registered voters turned out to make their pick for presidential nominees, which represents a 53 percent voter turnout overall.
On the Republican side, Donald Trump enjoyed a sizable lead over his nearest opponents. Out of the 2,521 Republican votes, 1,000 went to Trump, giving him 39.67 percent of the votes. Ohio governor John Kasich came in second with 675 votes, or 26.78 percent of the vote. Rounding out the top three was Marco Rubio with 557 votes, or 22.09 percent of the vote.
Statewide, Trump achieved a similar lead overall, picking up 49.3 percent of the Massachusetts vote and 22 of the state’s available delegates. John Kasich came in second with 18 percent of the state vote and 8 delegates.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton picked up a win. Of the 3,258 Democratic votes, 1,834 votes went to Clinton, giving her 56.29 percent of the vote. Vermont senator Bernie Sanders came in second with 1,373 votes, or 42.14 perent of the vote.
Statewide, Clinton picked up the win with 50.1 percent of the vote, while Bernie Sanders finished second with 48.7 percent of the vote.
Clinton picked up 46 delegates, while Sanders claimed 45 delegates.
