Get out your light sabers. “Space Princess Wars,” a comedic play that blends “ The Princess Bride” and the “Star Wars” film franchise, is coming to the Westwood High School stage Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
“We chose this gem specifically because it is such a whirlwind of fun, and the response from the whole production team and the actors has been nothing short of electric, “said Director and Performing Arts Teacher Jim Howard. “We cannot wait to share this cosmic spectacle with everyone.”

“The thing that makes this show shine is the truly absurd and uniquely theatrical way the special effects are handled,” said Howard. “Our actors are responsible for creating the ridiculous live sound effects and physically hurling models and puppets to create the space battles and gigantic cat monsters on stage. That commitment to visible, over-the-top silliness ensures non-stop laughter from start to finish.”
“Space Princess Wars” was written by Don Zolidis, one of the most-produced playwrights in American schools because his work consistently connects with young audiences through humor and a profound understanding of their world. Zolidis also wrote the audience favorite, “Game of Tiaras” which the High School presented a few years ago.
More than 20 students are in the cast, supported by a backstage technical crew including set and costume designers.
“The cast is having a blast,” said Howard.“The rehearsal room is always bursting with energy. It feels like a genuine, fun and supportive family, and that genuine joy is infectious for everyone involved.”
