The Westwood American Legion Post 320 once again this year sponsored four students to participate in Boys State and Girls State this past June.

The students sponsored by the Post were Camile Cummings, Grace Burke, Owen Doherty, David Burke and Joe Antonellis.

American Legion Boys and Girls State is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government. At American Legion Boys and Girls State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.

The American Legion cares about America, veterans and their families, and our nation’s youth. The Legion is a powerful voice in Washington dedicated to preserving our rights. The Massachusetts American Legion is always there for veterans and their families – whether it is when the American Legion lobbies in Washington or at the 300+ local American Legion Posts throughout Massachusetts.

Membership in the American Legion offers many benefits that include involvement in community programs, a voice in Washington DC, investment in children activities, education and camaraderie. Of course, the main focus is for veteran’s rights and their families - which is why the Legion continues to lobby in Washington for veterans as well as current servicemen and women.
