The Town of Westwood was honored to present Westwood resident and centenarian Jasper “Harvey” Atkins with the Boston Post Cane. The cane is presented to the Town’s oldest resident. Harvey received the cane at the Council on Aging on Friday, May 8, 2026 ahead of his 100th birthday on Saturday, May 9.

Harvey has lived in Westwood for 66 years. He was married to his late wife, Cynthia, for 66 years, and together they raised four children. Harvey served in the 7th Infantry Division during World War II, and, in Westwood, he served on the Finance Commission and as the Town Radiation Officer, volunteered with the Fire Department, and has been an active member of the Westwood Senior Center.
Westwood’s cane is preserved in a glass case at the Council on Aging. In 2009, Westwood’s Boston Post Cane tradition was revived in honor of its 100th anniversary. The Town is pleased to add Harvey’s name to the plaque of recipients. Congratulations, Harvey, and Happy Birthday!
