On the weekend of October 21, the Wellesley High School choral department held its annual Acatober a cappella concert. Due to the high demand for tickets, this year, the show was held on two nights, selling out the Katherine L. Babson auditorium for both performances, with concertgoers being treated to over two hours of a cappella music.
Over 300 WHS students participate in the high school choral program - nearly 20% of the total student body. What started as a small group of a cappella singers a few years ago has grown at WHS to include four student- run a cappella groups, each with their own style.
The evening was led by Dr. Kevin MacDonald, who said, “performing arts transport you to a place of joy and celebration … tonight we celebrate the joy of music-making.” In addition to the student performers - which included Concert Choir, Keynote Singers, Rice Street Singers, Brooks Brothers, Song Sisters, A Cappella Anonymous, Renegade a Capella, Inchordination, and Ladies First - the legendary Tufts Beelzebubs joined the concerts as special guests.
Coordination of an event of this magnitude could not be accomplished without a lot of support. Brian McMannomon and his talented tech team kept the show running smoothly, and Allison Madden from the high school coral department managed the online ticket sales for the event.
