Sarah Foley’s backyard was the setting for this year’s opening event for Postcomers, the Wellesley women’s organization that has been organizing social activities since the club’s founding in 1962. Members meet for friendship and good company, and it’s understood that a good time will be had by all at these get-togethers.
The weather at the September 13 late afternoon gathering was comfortable and clear. The patio was set up with sandwiches, other tempting appetizers, desserts, and cold drinks.
Amidst the background noise of many conversations and much laughter, those who attended were able to sign up for their activities, including bridge, book clubs, movies, craft projects, bowling, restaurant excursions and day trips. In addition, the club offers a monthly luncheon with a guest speaker.
This year the first luncheon will be on October 19. The speaker will discuss the 2016 political campaign. On October 14, there will be a tour of Chinatown. On November 19, the group will attend an Audubon sanctuary for a nature lecture and a hike.
More activities will include a speaker on clearing up the confusion about nutritious foods, a visit to the renowned Natick War Museum, and a gala December holiday party.
Postcomers, with more than 100 members, welcomes prospective members at the luncheons. The club is open to women of all ages who live in, or have lived in Wellesley. Call Marie Gassenheimer, Membership Chairman, at (781-235-1475) with any questions about joining.
