Wellesley Postcomers hold spring social

Despite the snow on the ground, spring was in the air at the beautiful flower-decorated home of Dr. Femina Ali. It was the 28th of March, and about 50 members of Postcomers gathered to eat, drink, and enjoy the company of friends at an afternoon party to celebrate the coming spring season.

A gift of $1,000 was presented by the organization to the Friendly Aid Society of Wellesley for their Camp Fund, which gives boys and girls who would otherwise not be able to attend the opportunity to enjoy a summer camp experience. The money was raised by Postcomers through generous gift donations from Wellesley businesses and merchants, as well as items crafted by members for the annual special winter season event.

The president of the Friendly Aid Society, Deborah Cogill, was on hand to receive the check that Marsha Welburn, the president of Postcomers, presented to her.

A new slate of officers was announced for the coming year. Marsha Welburn, who has served two terms as president, is stepping down this year and Pat Dacey, who held that office in prior years, will be leading the organization once again. Vice President will be Sarah Foley, Recording Secretary will be Sue Algren, Madeline Montali will be Corresponding Secretary, and Sheila Bloom will be the Treasurer.

Postcomers is an organization of Wellesley women who get together for fun and friendship in various activities, including monthly luncheons with guest speakers, bridge, trips, book clubs, dining out, bowling, crafts, and seasonal parties.

The April 28 luncheon will be at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, and the May luncheon will take place at the Wellesley College Club. Membership is open to all. For those with questions, call Marie Gassenheimer, membership chairperson, at (781-235-1475).
