Last chance for WEF Spelling Bee registration

It’s that time of year again where the town is a buzz with the upcoming Wellesley Education Foundation’s annual spelling bee. On Wednesday, November 14, at 7 p.m. at the Sprague School Gym, the community adult spelling contest and fundraising will return for the 29th time.

“The Spelling Bee really brings together the entire community with local businesses, colleges, community organizations, school PTOs, Town staff and Selectmen, in addition to students from our middle and high school,” said Christina Dougherty, Co-Chair of the Bee. “It is a wonderful example of how our community is engaged to support excellence in our school district while having fun!”

Wellesley Education Foundation Bee Co-Chair Eileen Savarese reports that last year, the Bee generated over $57,000 in funding. “As the first WEF event of the year, the Bee really jump-starts our fundraising efforts. The community support we receive through sponsorship, donations and team entries at the Bee has a huge impact on the Wellesley Public Schools. The money is used to help achieve the school’s new initiatives in its strategic plan.”

“Our sponsors are a key part of making this event happen each year. We are fortunate to have businesses, organizations, families and individuals who make it such a fun night. Many generous sponsors pay the entry fees for teams that are unable to pay. So, we encourage everyone who is thinking of putting together a team not to hesitate. It will be a fun night for all!” said Christina Dougherty, Bee co-Chair.

Donations and team sponsorships ranging from $125 to $2,500 are greatly appreciated. To register a team or donate, visit WEF’s website at https://wellesleyeducationfoundation.org/spelling-bee

The deadline to register a team or donate with recognition is October 19.
