Though the only thing shining were the faces in the crowd, the 149th Walpole High School (WHS) graduation went on as planned last Sunday, June 4th. There had been some debate over where the ceremony would take place due to the disappointing weather forecast, but ultimately the event occurred outside on Turco Field, which was ideal considering the large size of the crowd.
The hour-long ceremony was a wonderful tribute to the graduating class and included music from the WHS concert band, a performance by the WHS concert choir, an impressive list of scholarship and award recipients, and heartfelt speeches by the President and Vice President of the class of 2023.
“We made the most of our time here, and truly impacted our school. Each and every one of us has come such a long way…we’ve all challenged ourselves over these past 4 years…regardless of our own goals, we’ve pushed ourselves to our fullest potential to reach this very moment,” said Stephen Bond, President of the Class of 2023, during his speech.
Vice President Sophia Brownsword affectionately spoke of her classmates when she spoke next: “Each unique personality of the people standing in front of me makes up our team, a group of irreplaceable individuals that leaves behind a long-lasting impact on their community.”
After the diplomas were awarded, the traditional cap-throwing took place, as family and friends proudly looked on.
Congratulations to the Class of 2023!
