On Friday, May 26th, the German/American Club of Walpole kicked off the start of summer with their May Country Biergarten. This event took place in Walpole at Boylston Schul-Verein, also known as the BSV. The venue included beautiful outdoor covered seating underneath their pavilion, open-air seating in the Biergarten, as well as a playground and meadow for little ones to play on.
Live country music was performed by Jake and Jenny, as well as their full-backing band. Those in attendance could indulge both their thirst and hunger at the main bar, draft pop-up, and food trucks. With the beautiful weather and amazing facility, the overall turnout was incredible as hundreds of people gathered to enjoy some beer and country music.
President of the BSV, Angela DeMartino, discussed how this non-profit organization has made multiple improvements to the facility over the years to encourage more people to come and enjoy. Between the playground being installed and new lights being placed around the property, DeMartino stressed that although they serve alcohol, these events are definitely family-friendly in which parents are encouraged to bring their children for a great time to be had by all.
DeMartino additionally stated, “We have a whole series of events coming up. Every last Friday of the month in the summer, we have this type of event, the Biergarten. We also have our Sommerfest coming up in the beginning of June. … We love to share with the community and get people involved around here.”
Events like these are not the only thing that the BSV has going on. They also offer two school programs, one for adults and one for children. In these classes they offer German lessons, such as how to speak and write the language. The children even go on to get a real German degree at the end of this extended education program.
Everyone can be a member at the BSV, and there are special delegations for those of German descent. For more information on upcoming events and/or how to become a member, please visit the BSV website at www.germanclub.org.
