Scouts clean Turner Pond

On Sunday, April 23, as part of Earth Day, a group of Boy Scouts from Troop 44 met at Turner Pond to clean up the beach, the lodge area and surrounding conservation land. Over a three hour period, the scouts collected several large bags of trash and two large bags of recyclables while clearing much of the dead wood dropped by the winter’s storms.

Several of the scouts in attendance completed their Project SCENE award for being committed to environmental stewardship. The event was also part of the Geocaching community’s “Cache In, Trash Out” (CITO) program and was attended by geocachers from as far away as West Boylston and Swansea, MA.

It was a beautiful day, and Turner Pond again has a nice, clean look to it.
The Scouts thanked the Walpole Ponds Committee for helping make the event happen.
