The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is one of the most popular social media trends to date.
Recently, Tara Pacella, mother of Walpole High School athletes Sophia and David Pacella, was diagnosed with ALS. In response, the Pacella family created tee-shirts to raise money and fight ALS. The tee-shirts and long-sleeves were emblazoned with "4 U I Will Fight," and the trend took off like wildfire. Along with the town of Walpole rallying behind the Pacella family, other local high schools, including King Philip and Milton, helped support the cause.
With no sports currently going on due to the COVID-19 pandemic, athletes everywhere are looking for ways to stay engaged and connected with one another. This past week, Walpole High baseball decided to take matters into its own hands, posting an Ice Bucket Challenge video calling out the rival Natick High School baseball team, as well as Hometown Weekly sports editor Mike Flanagan.
Mike responded with a video later the same afternoon and proceeded to challenge Medfield High School varsity lacrosse to do the same.
Hopefully, this trend can gain some steam and help athletes stay busy during all this down time, all while supporting a great cause.
