Last March, the area was blanketed by several feet of snow, forcing the spring sports season to be postponed for at least a week and pushing teams from the diamond or the turf into gyms, hallways, and anywhere that a free space could be found.

Thankfully, this winter has not been nearly as difficult but on Monday, March 21, as teams officially kicked off preparations for another spring season, there was snow on the ground.

It melted quickly and teams have been out on local fields getting ready for the start of game action in the first week of April.

On Saturday, the Needham lacrosse programs got into the action with scrimmages against some of the best programs in the state. The boys took on defending Div. 2 champion Medfield, while the girls traveled to their traditional play date at Westwood High.

Boys’ volleyball will get things underway this week, while the remaining teams will see their seasons officially start in April.

This has been a typically strong year for Needham High sports and the Rockets will look to close it out strong with a solid spring.
