Medfield High sophomore Julie Letai finished third last weekend at U.S. SpeedSkating’s Short Track AmCup in Verona, Wisconsin. Letai finished with a total of 968 points over four races (1,500, 500, 1,000, and 500), which was 12 points better than the fourth place competitor.

Letai took third in the 1,500-meter, sixth in the first round of the 500-meter and the 1,000-meter, then third again in the final round of 500-meter races.

The AmCup is an event that pits qualifying speed skaters from around the country against each other and allows skaters to earn points towards qualifying for the 2018 Olympic Trials. The series will continue later this year.

Letai trains at Bay State Speedskating Club in Walpole.
