The Medfield High girls varsity ice hockey team improved to 3-1-1 (1-0-1) after compiling two wins and a tie over the holiday break, with wins coming over the Hockomock League’s Oliver Ames (3-0) on December 17 and Plymouth-North (3-0) of the Old Colony League on December 28. The victories sandwiched a 2-2 tie with TVL foe Medway-Ashland on December 21.
Along with sophomore goaltender Sophia Merageas pitching the shutout, goals by junior defenseman Kristen Reardon, sophomore defenseman Maddie Coogan, and senior forward Sarah Graham propelled the lady-Warriors to the 3-0 victory over Oliver Ames.
The lady-Warriors entered their December 21 contest with Medway-Ashland riding high from their win over Oliver Ames, and were looking to put together a win streak for the first time this season. However, despite holding a 2-1 lead late in the third period over the Mustangs, a goal with 1:30 left by Medway-Ashland spoiled the thought of a win streak and the Warriors were forced to settle for the 2-2 tie.
Following the holiday, Medfield returned to the ice on December 28 and traveled down to Plymouth with the hopes of picking up where they left off before Christmas. A 22-save performance and shutout by Sophia Merageas and goals by junior forward Becca Brown and sophomore forward Kayla Anderson propelled Medfield to a 3-0 blanking of Plymouth-North, earning their second win in three games and improving to 3-1-1 on the year.
At the time of print, the Warriors will look to continue their recent success with upcoming games at Shrewsbury on January 4 before getting back into conference play at Westwood on January 7.
