On Wednesday, January 28th, varsity girls’ hockey played the Canton Bulldogs at home for their only matchup of this season. This was also their mental health awareness game. The rink was decorated in bright green ribbons and the Warriors adorned their sticks with matching tape and wore small ribbons on their jerseys. Admission fees and donations went towards KyleCares, a foundation in memory of a North Attleboro teenager that “[is] dedicated to promoting open and honest communication about the mental health challenges experienced by teens and young adults in today’s society.”

The previous week had been pretty successful for the Warriors, on January 19th going to overtime against Belmont High, who had been 5–4–2 before eking out a 3–2 win over the Warriors. Two days later, Medfield was back on top with a 6–3 defeat of Mansfield High (3–5–1) followed by a 6–0 shutout against Longmeadow High (1–8–4) three days after that.

The Warriors entered the Canton game with an 8–5 record to the Bulldogs’ 8–4–1. Down 0–2 in the third period, 8th grader Abby Herman sent a pass to Captain Lauren St. Mary, who brought it up the ice and made a good shot that went just high.
Unfortunately, the Warriors were not able to close the lead and the game ended 0–2.
On Saturday the 31st, however, they defeated Hopkinton (6–6) 2–1 after beating them 7–4 in the first game of the season.

The Warriors will next face Ashland High School (1–12) today at the Blackstone Valley Iceplex at 4:00 after defeating them 6–2 early in the season. Then on Saturday at 4:40, they will be back at the Canton Ice House looking for revenge against Dedham High (9–5) after a 2–5 loss to them back in December. On Wednesday, February 11th, the Warriors will be at the Canton Ice House again, this time to play Norwood High (2–11–1) after a 4–0 win against them earlier this month.
