As winter envelops Dover-Sherborn High School, the campus hums with anticipation as students and athletes prepare for the eagerly awaited winter sports season. Offering a diverse array of sports, including boys' and girls' swim teams, boys' and girls' hockey, boys' and girls' indoor track, and boys' and girls' basketball, the school is poised for a season of intense competition and bustling evenings featuring captivating sporting events.
The Raiders' boys and girls swim teams are poised to make waves this year, showcasing their dedication to technique and endurance in their inaugural meet against Norwood High on December 17th. The boys' team concluded the 2022-2023 season with a 3-3-1 record, while the girls' team achieved a polished 5-3 record in the same period.
This week marked the commencement of preseason for several teams, including the boys' and girls' hockey teams. The hockey rinks resound with the rhythmic echoes of skates slicing through the ice as both teams gear up for an action-packed season. Engaging in rigorous practices to refine their skills, the teams set their sights on their first competitions of the season. The boys will face off against Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High on Saturday, December 9th, at the Toby Kent Arena in S. Dennis, with the puck dropping at 2 PM. The girls will compete on January 8th against Newton North High at Reilly Rink, with the puck dropping at 4 PM.
With shoes laced up, the indoor track teams prepare for upcoming competitions. The boys' team concluded the previous season with a commendable 4-1 record, while the girls finished with a 3-2 record. Beginning the season on a positive note, both teams will compete against Norton High on December 8th at 4:30 PM. The Raiders aim to showcase their agility and strength on the track, striving to set new records in their pursuit of excellence.
The hardwood courts reverberate with the sounds of bouncing basketballs and fast-paced sneakers as the boys' and girls' basketball teams dribble into the season. Emphasizing skill development and strategic play, both teams aspire to achieve success. The boys secured a commendable sixth place in the MIAA rankings last year, concluding with a 16-4 record. Simultaneously, the girls maintained a strong performance, ending the previous season with a 14-6 record and securing fifth place in the MIAA standings of Division III, reaching the round of eight in playoffs. The girls will commence their season on December 12th at 6:30 PM, hosting the Bellingham Bay Hawks, while the boys will play at Bellingham High at the same time and date. Anticipation is building for the upcoming season, with fans eagerly anticipating thrilling matchups and buzzer-beating moments from both teams in the heat of this year's competition.
