The Medfield girls basketball team punched their ticket to the State Championship game Tuesday night with a decisive 60-46 win over Oliver Ames. The girls will now face the winner of Northampton and Worcester South in the championship game at Tsongas Arena in Lowell later this week.
Medball raised the Final Four trophy in front of a packed house at the Medfield High School gym last Friday night after a 57-44 win over rival Norwood. Norwood kept the game tight, cutting the Medfield lead to 4 before the halftime buzzer. Two quick buckets by Senior Captain Sadie Cumming to start the second half swung the momentum the way of the Warriors.
Monday night at Taunton high School, Medfield took the court looking to avenge a heartbreaking Final Four loss two years ago at the hands of Oliver Ames. This year would prove different as the Warriors controlled the game for the start. Sophomores Izzy Kittredge (21 points) and Tess Baacke (13 points) led the scoring for Medball while Senior Captain Annie Stanton and freshman point guard Nya Annigeri each added 10 points. Medfield will now play for the state title which would be the first for Medfield High School since girls lacrosse won a state championship in 2022 and the first for Medfield girls basketball since 2016.
