The DSHS Girls Varsity Basketball team begins its season with a home opener against Bellingham High School on December 12th at 6:30 p.m. Head Coach Kanee Chebdla’s squad returns nine players from last season’s team that won the inaugural tri-valley league (small) championship and advanced to the state semi-finals, and she believes that this team has the potential to go even further.
Although three starters from last year’s team graduated, Coach Chebdla (who returns for her 13th season) is confident that with experienced returning starters (Erica Hills, Avery O’Connell, Drew Hussar and Elliana Scalabrine) and a very deep bench the girls will be a threat to repeat and even improve on last year’s squad that went 14-7 overall and was one loss away from playing for the state title (for the second year in a row!). The offense is expected to look for scoring in the paint and by swinging the ball out for open three-pointers, but the girls will also look to outrun their opponents after rebounds and attack the basket in transition. The girls play on Tuesday and Friday evenings during the regular season until the playoffs commence in February. Best of luck to Coach Chebdla and the Varsity Girls as they look to continue their winning ways this season.
DSHS Varsity Girls Basketball Team 2023-2024 consists of: Erica Hills, Drew Hussar, Avery O’Connell, Amari Hughes, Elliana Scalabrine, Isabella Campanella, Ruby Fielding, Monica Gibbs, Mia Griebel, and Leah Hill.
