As the sun set last Thursday, the Dover-Sherborn field hockey girls took the field, lining up for an 11 v. 11 friendly competition against Hingham High in their first scrimmage of the year. As they prepared for an action-packed hour, the girls expressed their excitement with cheers. It marked the beginning of a promising season ahead, characterized by growth, fun, and determination.

Since scrimmages do not impact regular season records, Head Coach Molly McGill had the opportunity to work on formations with the team and experiment with alternate lineups for the upcoming season. The girls eagerly got to work when the first whistle blew, initiating the first quarter of the game. Utilizing their drives, reverse sweeps, and push passes, they made their best efforts to advance the ball up the field into their offensive zone. Displaying as much talent as their forwards, the Raiders' defense protected their goal line tenaciously, executing strong block tackles that formed an impenetrable barrier against Hingham's attempts.

The girls' enjoyment on the field was evident, celebrating their achievements after scoring a goal in the second quarter. Showing early signs of a promising season, McGill expressed her satisfaction with the girls' efforts in the scrimmage, noting their unwavering commitment.

"We have many new players alongside returning ones in our midfield and forward lines. The chemistry they've developed from playing together for two to three years is a valuable asset. We cherish that experience and team chemistry. I look forward to building on what we accomplished last year, considering our successful season that led us to the final four. Our goal is always to meet or exceed our previous season's performance," said McGill.

To kick off their regular season, the girls traveled to Bellingham on Wednesday, September 6th, for their first league match.
